Psalm 119:45

At the beginning of every year I play with the

idea of setting resolutions which consist of

being better, trying harder and doing more.

This year I’m changing my approach.  I’ve

chosen a verse to refer to at the start of each

day.  Here are a couple different translations:

Psalm 119:45

I will walk about in freedom,

for I have sought out your precepts. (TNIV)

I will walk in freedom,

for I have devoted myself to your commandments. (NLT)

And I'll stride freely through wide open spaces

as I look for your truth and your wisdom; (The Message)

I grew up in the church and in a believing household. I accepted Christ as my Savior when I was four years old. But somewhere in my childhood I developed the belief that being a Christian means to deny myself to an unhealthy extent. I heard that “idle hands are a sin” so to be a good Christian I thought I must run myself ragged, do as much as possible, always putting others’ needs above my own. I have struggled with feeling as if I am chained and never good enough for much of my life.  I have lived not in the freedom Christ has freely given me, but rather as my own prisoner to what is “Right and Expected”.

This year I will walk in freedom. I have devoted myself to God’s commandments. I daily seek God’s truth and wisdom.  Because of this, I will shake off the shackles and stride freely through wide open spaces.

Bring it on 2012.
