Are We Looking for Jesus?

This past weekend we took some time to center around a simple yet profound thought: Jesus is everywhere, but do we have the eyes to see him?

In Luke 24, two of Jesus’ friends are walking on the road to Emmaus. Jesus walks up and travels with them, but they do not recognize until evening that it is Jesus. There is some debate among scholars as to why this is, but many say they did not recognize Jesus because they were not expecting to see him.

In John 21, Jesus appears to his disciples by the Sea of Galilee. They are fishing and have not caught a thing. Jesus stands on the shore and calls out “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” But his disciples do not recognize him. He instructs them to cast their nets on the right side of the boat and a miraculous amount of fish are caught.

This makes me wonder if I am truly living with eyes wide open to the Savior.

Matthew 25:35-40 Jesus says to the people “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink....” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you....?” The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Mother Theresa said, “I see Jesus in every human being. I say to myself, this is hungry Jesus, I must feed him. This is sick Jesus....I must wash him and tend to him. I serve because I love Jesus.”

These days I am trying to see Jesus in everyone: my family, friends, the homeless man on the side of the road, my neighbor, even the other drivers on the highway.

So let’s share... where this week have you been able to serve and love others as if it were Jesus? Are we looking for him?
