Reverence and Joy!

On Wednesday night I had the honor of singing with The Brilliance.  Frontman David Gungor and his crew of musicians have tapped into a new song, a new way of worship music.  With the use of strings, glockenspiel, drums, piano, acoustic and many more layers, their music is a beautiful artwork of classic meets quirky.  I love it!

Rehearsal was a flurry of excitement and ‘can we try this?’ moments. But when the service began, I was struck by two words: reverence and joy.  This Advent meditation was like a deep breath in and out.  The evening was undoubtedly about the holiness of God and the expectancy of the birth of Jesus.

The music helped accompany the moments.  There were pauses of silence in between songs which felt like a welcome calm to my noisy life. David Gungor lead unplanned prayers where it felt wanting, and offered parts of his journey in story when there was a need for human connection.

And yet with a feeling of deep reverence throughout the evening, there was joy! Oh holy joy. Our Savior is coming. We get to celebrate once again.

Reverence and Joy

This Christmas season, may we pause and remember the one we worship, God sent down to earth to meet us where we are in the form of a baby boy, Jesus Christ. The light of the world.
